The one from Castellón Sara Sorribes (n.46 WTA) continues to lead the Rabat tournamentby reaching the quarterfinals after defeating Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska (n.59), 7-5, 3-6 and 6-3.
There was almost three hours of hard-fought battle between the two players, which was again decided in favor of the Spaniard as in the previous three encounters, the last just twelve days ago in Rome. Of course, this time the Argentine born in Rosario 27 years ago stole a set from his rival.
The match was not exactly marked by service excellence. And there were a total of 15 service breaks (eight in favor of Sorribes, seven for Podoroska), seven of which were in the first set.
The decision in favor of the 27-year-old Vall d’Uixó from Castellón, came after 3-3 in the third set, when Sorribes chained three consecutive games (two on the rival serve) that gave him a spot in the quarterfinals. There will be measured the winner of the duel between the Egyptian Mayar Sherif (n.66) and the Argentine María Lourdes Carle (n.83).
Carle, certainly, reached the round of 16 today after defeating the Dutch Arantxa Rus, by double 6-3.
