An Italian football legend has hung up his boots

It was an open secret and now it is a reality. At 37 years old and after a successful sports career, Leonardo Bonucci will retire from professional football as soon as this season ends.

After a campaign in which he barely had a leading role, first in Union Berlin and now at Fenerbahçein the same locker room he put his professionalism and experience at the service of the group.

The Italian international will leave football after more than 600 games in club football and becoming a Juventus legend, despite his “betrayal” by leaving Milan for a season, in a surprising decision. At the national team level he played 116 games and in total he achieved almost twenty titles.

Throughout his long career, the defender played one season at Inter Milan, another at Bari and a total of 12 at Juventus divided into two periods. In addition to the aforementioned year in Milan and the current campaign, where he played the first part in Germany and the second in Turkey.

Although the footballer, who will play this Sunday on the 26th against Istanbulspor (6pm) in his last game, has not yet made an official statement, he reposted a member through the social network ‘X’, which was known as Twitter Fabrizio Romano where he says ‘‘Leonardo Bonucci is leaving Fenerbahçe and is ready to announce his decision to retire as soon as he returns to Italy next week”.

They can do this by winning the Turkish Super League, should they win their match and Galatasaray lose.
