Swedish Armand Duplantis won unopposed Golden Spike Ostrava Rally (Czech Republic), on the continental gold circuit, although he was left without the pole vault world record he was chasing by being unable to overcome the bar at 6.25 meters in three attempts.
Armand Duplantis arrived in Ostrava ready to continue making history, as he anticipated in the preview at the press conference to present the event.
Duplantis, 24, dominated the contest from the start without much opposition. His first jump was 5.62. The next bar for his competitors, at 5.72, he did not meet, and went directly to six meters, which overtook third. It was then, with victory assured, that he ordered the bar to be set at 6.25. On a windy and wet track, the Swede tried to overtake him three times, but was unable to do so.
In this way, Duplantis was left without breaking his own world record. The new record was set on April 21 in Xiamen (China) in the Diamond League at 6.24, one centimeter more than the 6.23 it held since September 2023 in Eugene.
The second place finisher in Ostrava was Frenchman Ethan Cormont, who stood at 5.62 meters, the same height as Belgian Ben Broeders, third.
