Between October 5 and 8. Four days of pure mountain biking in the province of Almería. About 350 kilometers and more than 6,000 meters of accumulated positive slope. Four nights in a four-star hotel in Cabo de Gata. All this without leaving the province of Almería and in a landscape of incredible contrast. This could be the Škoda Titan Desert Almería’s calling card. The Andalusian race is facing its fifth edition and a few days ago it was presented in detail. Among the big news of the race was the participation of triple world champion Peter Sagan.
Sagan has been one of the great stars of world cycling in recent years. To his victories in the road world championship we have to add 12 stage wins in the Tour de France and seven green jerseys of the Grande Boucle to his record.
The Slovak idol wants to continue expanding his borders. After an odd career in the road world, he reinvented himself in mountain biking. He has already participated in several Olympic Cross Country World Cup races and in Almería he will make his debut in a cycling race. Mountain bike in stages.
He will do it surrounded by almost half a thousand cyclists, professionals and amateurs, who come from all over the world and who, at this moment, are registering for the race. Because registration is open for the great adventure taking place in the only desert in Europe.
So, the test starts with a stage that runs along the coast, next to Cabo de Gata. A day with a start and finish next to the hotel that will serve as the operations center and rest area for all the Titans.
From there, the peloton will move to the desert of Tabernas, with a second stage full of boulevards and trails and the third day is marked by the presence of that colossus called Alto de Velefique: a pass history of cycling in big letter.
Finally, the race will close with a final stage crossing the Álvarez de Sotomayor military base. Quite a spectacle and a unique opportunity to ride in a maneuvering area before returning to El Toyo, the starting point of the race.
At the final finish line, the Titanes and Titanas will celebrate that they have overcome the Škoda Titan Desert Almería challenge.
