The P technicianortho, Sérgio Conceiçãowill not continue to lead the bench of the Portuguese team, a position he has held for the last seven years.
In a statement sent this morning to Securities Market Commission (CMVM) Lusa, the club reported that Conceição’s time at the helm of the ‘dragons’ will end at the end of June, when his contract expires.
Sergio Conceição, who won three leagues with the “dragons” team, was renewed on April 25 for four more years by the former president of Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa.
However, two days later, on April 27, Pinto da Costa lost the election and former coach André Vilas-Boas took over as club president.
According to Porto’s statement, Sergio Conceição chose “unilateral termination.”
For his part, the coach explained in another statement that he left “with a sense of duty fulfilled”, after winning 11 titles.
Sergio Conceição, 49, took charge of Porto in 2017 and left after winning three Ligas, four Cups, three Portuguese Super Cups and a League Cup.
During this time, he became the coach with the most games (379), the most victories (274) and the most titles (11) as the leader of the blue and white team.
Previously, he managed French side Nantes and Portuguese clubs such as Braga and Vitória de Guimarães.
His career as a footballer also went through Porto, where he trained and won three league titles, although most of them were spent in Italy, where he defended the colors of Lazio, Parma and Inter Milan.
Finding a new coach is one of the first challenges of Porto’s new sports director, the Spanish Andoni Zubizarreta.
