Six workers were struck and killed by a freight train in northern China on Tuesday. The train company said the train struck the group in the early morning hours (local time) for reasons that are still unclear.
Two people died at the scene of the accident between Tangyuan and Changjiang, while four others died later after being rescued. Four workers were also injured. The railway company said it quickly took rescue measures after the accident.
The company wants to make “every effort” to clarify the cause of the accident in order to rule out a recurrence of such an incident in the future. The company expressed its condolences to the families of the victims.
The accident site was in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang. The Suijia Railway runs a total of about 380 kilometers through mountainous areas and forests to Jiamusi. The accident happened at the end of the route.
