4-0: Goleada by a Palmeiras lead

The palm trees defeated this Thursday 4-0 at Botafogo and with 19 points he claimed Serie A’s lead Brazilian Championship of soccer, taking advantage of the defeat suffered on Tuesday by their Corinthian rival. Another highlight of the day was Flamengo’s 1-0 defeat on their visit to Bragantino. The result prompted the departure of Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa, who was made official on Thursday by the Rio de Janeiro team.

In other results, Ceará, with two goals from Colombian Stiven Mendoza, won 0-2 away from América. Ceará coach Dorival Júnior exactly accepted Flamengo’s proposal to replace Sousa.

Scolari’s Paranaense victory

Athletico Paranaense’s former Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has already beaten Juventude 1-3. One of the goals of the Curitiba team, which climbed to third position with 16 points, was converted by Uruguayan David Terans.

Another charrúa, defender Bruno Méndez, converted in Internacional’s 1-1 draw from home against Santos, led by Argentine coach Fabián Bustos.

In Goiania, Atlético Goianiense beat Avaí 2-1. In other matches on Thursday, bottom side Fortaleza beat Goiás 1-0, while Sao Paulo, with a goal from Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri, tied the score at 1-1 on their visit to Coritiba, in the lead by Paraguayan coach Gustavo Morínigo.
