Police officers from Braunau (Upper Austria) chased a thief who had stolen five expensive e-bikes from a cellar for 370 kilometers. They caught up with him in Bratislava.
In collaboration with the State Police, Braunau’s criminologists were able to pinpoint the location of the bicycles in Bratislava (Slovakia) within hours. An anti-theft device on one of the wheels had laid the trail. With the support of their Slovak colleagues, the Innviertel investigators were able to detain a 44-year-old Slovak citizen in the Bratislava urban area the next day.
Owners have their bikes back
Four of the stolen e-bikes and a racing bicycle were trapped in the trunk of the crime vehicle. Further investigation led to a garage in Slovakia, where the missing fifth e-bike and other evidence could be recovered. The stolen bicycles have since been returned to their rightful owners in Braunau.
