Veteran Portuguese-Brazilian center back Pepe will “listen to his body” at the Euro 2024 Championship in Germany and then make a decision about his career, Vitor Bruno, Porto’s new coach, announced on Friday.
In his presentation as the coach of the ‘dragons’, Bruno said that Pepe is a “symbol of the club”, but his renewal at the age of 41 is a “complicated” issue.

“It requires a certain ability to realize to what extent we should or should not act, without hurting or angering Pepe”, commented Vítor Bruno.
And he added: “We have to realize what is the best way to act. We also have to talk to Pepe and make the best decision.”
The contract ends in June
Pepe’s contract with Porto expires this June and is one of the pending matters for the new sports director of the northern Portuguese team. the Spaniard Andoni Zubizarreta.
Pepe, formerly of Real Madrid, represented the blue and white between 2004 and 2007, the year in which he left for the Santiago Bernabéu, and returned in 2019.
Despite his 41 years, the center back is an undisputed starter for Porto and is currently with the Portugal team preparing for what will be the fifth European Championship of his career.
