Carlos Sainz still no equipment. Despite being on the market since it was announced in February that Lewis Hamilton had signed for Ferrari, the man from Madrid continues to talk to teams to see which project suits him best. Some of the loudest ones are Audi (which until 2025 is Sauber) and Williams.
The very leader of this latter group, James Vowles, was full of praise for the Spanish driver in the press conference before the Canadian GP. However, he did not reveal any details about a hypothetical trial or negotiations to acquire his services.
“Carlos is an exceptional driver and race winner, Any team would be privileged to have him in their organization. Beyond that, nothing can be said,” said the Grove boss.
“We want to have two world-class drivers and for them to be part of our settlement in the future, we want to be serious. We are investing to get back to the front, in 2026 we will have one of the best machines. We will will be announced shortly, I hope, but there are about thirty incredible people from other groups joining our organization that we’ve been putting together over the last twelve months.
Andrea Stella who was with Sainz during his time at McLaren, also had good words to appreciate the figure of the ’55’. “Carlos is an interesting driver, not only because of his quality that makes him a race winner. Also because he is very rational, he has to have a plan in his head about what is the fastest way to do a lap or a race. He has a lot of rationality along with his instincts and when you’re that rational, it’s very easy to relate to him. This makes it very good for the team, because even the problems are well articulated and become very clear to the team. For us it is an important variable in the development of the team”
We will have to wait to find out where Carlos Sainz ends up but it is clear that within the market he is one of the sweetest names for the teams. In fact, although it is complicated, for Mercedes it has not been completely excluded.
