Next Friday, June 14, the Euro Cup begins. An appointment where gradually all participating teams must start arriving within the obligation to stay in the host country at the latest five days before the competition opens.
A tournament in which UEFA assumes a significant part of the costs that the qualifying countries must face but there is a limit. European football’s highest body assumes all costs for travel to Germany as well as everything that needs to be done within the country during the tournament. But there is always a limit of 50 people per delegation. This includes up to 26 internationals allowed by UEFA for each of the 24 teams that will participate in the final stage. Also other members of the technical staff (coach, physical trainer, doctor, etc.).
Anything that involves exceeding this number must be assumed by each of the participating teams: This is reflected in the regulations of the highest body of European football. “UEFA provides local ground transportation within the territory of the host country for a maximum of 50 people per delegation. Any additional transportation must be arranged and paid for by the participating associations themselves.”
The same regulation makes it clear that the behavior of each camp or places of concentration of teams is the responsibility of the national federations. What UEFA assumes are transfers or stays in hotels outside of it: “All participating associations pay the costs related to the base camps of their teams. UEFA arranges and pays for accommodation in the teams’ transfer hotels.based on a standard arrangement for 50 people per delegation the associations are responsible and will cover the costs of any additional board and accommodation.
Furthermore, in the next point of the UEFA Regulations it adds that “it reimburses the 23 visiting delegations for international travel expenses – round trip by air-conditioned bus, train (first class or sleeping car) or plane (economy class) – of a maximum of 50 people per delegation The lump sum paid to cover these travel expenses is based on the standard full economy fare of the national airline of the association calculated from the main airport of the participant to be escorted to the international airport base camp in Germany.”
UEFA does not pay the participating teams’ per diems as they are covered by Euro Cup participation bonuses. Furthermore, each selection, in addition to these bonuses, receives a value based on performance and based on the total revenue generated by the exploitation of commercial rights.
