Euro 2024 already has its first MVP: Jamal Musiala. The Germany striker led the hosts’ thrashing of Scotland in Munich (5-1) and was named the best player in the first of 51 matches to be played in the competition.
The Bayern attacker was superb against the Scottish defence, who could not find an antidote to stop his total football. Musiala hits from the wing or plays between the lines and combines with Wirtz and Gündogan. He made it 2-0 in the 19th minute with an unstoppable shot to crown a fine joint action between Kroos, Gündo and Havertz.
The statistics speak for themselves: he didn’t miss a single one of the 32 passes he attempted, he scored on his only shot between three sticks and completed 5 of the eight dribbles he attempted. His partnership with Wirtz is one of Germany’s great hopes of going far in their Euro Cup.
