Draper, Alcaraz’s potential rival at Queen’s, debuted his ATP record on grass

The British Jack Drapersixth seed, the proclaimed winner of the tournament played in the German city of Stuttgartin the 250 category and played on grass, after beating the Italian in the final Matteo Berrettini by 3-6, 7-6 and 6-4.

Berrettini, winner of the event in 2019 and in 2022, won the first round by taking advantage of the only breaking ball available to both, in the fourth game. However, in the second Draper, who previously missed two set points, broke even after winning the tie break 7-5.

In the third and final game, Draper broke his opponent’s serve for the only time in the match in the seventh game and held on to seal his tournament victory, his first in ATP circuit after losing the two previous finals in which he participated.

Draper, 22 years old and world number 40, could be a rival next week Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 16 Queen’s ATP If both tennis players beat their opponents in the first round of Argentina, Mariano Navone and Francisco Cerundolorespectively.
