McIlroy reclaims number 2 and Jon Rahm continues to slide down the golf rankings

The Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, runner-up at the US Open, has regained his position as Scottie Scheffler’s guardnumber one in the world golf rankings for another week, while fellow American Bryson DeChambeau, winner of Pinehurst no.2, is in the ‘top 10’.

The exciting resolution of the third major of the season, with McIlroy’s errors to give DeChambeau his second US Open, leaving Scheffler on top despite his more than cautious performancewhere he suffered even to make the cut.

McIlroy was unable to end his curse at the majors last decade with three bogeys in the last four holes, but he regained second place on the world list by surpassing American Xander Schauffele for seventh on Sunday.

Also advancing to fourth place was young Swede Ludvig Aberg, who in his US Open debut fought for victory in the first two days, but could not maintain the pace and lost his chances to finish twelfth together the Spaniard Sergio García.

Aberg caught up with the American Wyndham Clark and the Norwegian Viktor Hovland, and Patrick Cantlay, third, settled for eighth place at the expense of Jon Rahm, who dropped to ninth after missing the Open due to a foot infection.
