Wimbledon has allocated 177,000 euros to the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza

The tournament of Wimbledon will provide an endowment of 150,000 pounds (177,000 euros) to the British Red Cross to go to the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.

Since 2020, Wimbledon, through its foundation, makes a £100,000 annual donation to the British Red Cross disaster fundwhich “provides rapid assistance for people affected by emergencies in the UK and around the world.”

The tournament will increase its endowment to 177,000 euros for the next two years, it was confirmed on Tuesday.

Besides, the tournament will give away 500 tickets to Red Cross refugees to enjoy a day at the tournamentas well as another 500 in local organizations helping people already in the United Kingdom.

People who receive these tickets will be provided with food, drinks and transportation during the day they spend at the event.

Wimbledon did not allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian tennis players in 2022after the invasion of Ukraine, which caused no points to be awarded in that year’s tournament.

Since last year, people of these nationalities have been allowed to play, but under a neutral flag and without the ability to make any demonstration in favor of the war.
