FIFA and UEFA oppose the Italian’s plan to oversee the club’s finances

Date:

The FIFA and the UEFA expressed their opposition to the Italian Government’s project to create a commission to oversee the budgets of professional clubs, it was reported on Tuesday Gabriele Gravinapresident of Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

In a parliamentary appearance, Gravine already explained the FIGC received an email on Monday from FIFA and the UEFA. He said the email was encouraging FIGC to “press the Government to reverse this measure which violates the autonomy of sport.” The government order – still subject to change by Parliament – recalls plans to appoint an independent regulator for English football.

“We confirm that a letter signed by UEFA and the FIFA was sent to the FIGC regarding the assignment,” said UEFA in a statement emailed to Reuters.

“Both organizations will continue to monitor developments and assess the need to take further action if necessary,” he added.

Rome created the authority to oversee the budgets of professional sports clubs following a series of financial and regulatory problems suffered by major Italian soccer teams in recent years.

The decision was criticized by some of the country’s top sports leaders.

The Juventusfamily controlled Agnellihad a 10-point deduction on A series in the 2022/2023 season and the ban from participating in European competitions in 2023-24 after accounting problems.
