The Spanish Alexander Moro gave a surprise in the previous episode of Wimbledon and eliminated the Brazilian João Fonsecaone of the greatest promises of this sport.
Fonseca, 17 years old and on the verge of breaking into the world’s top 200, fell in three sets – 4-6, 6-3 and 7-6 (10) – against Moro Cañas, 23 years old and 183rd in ranking.
The Spaniard, after leveling in sets and taking the match to a final tiebreaker, choked in the final stages of the match and needed six match points to beat the Brazilian, who is junior number one and last year’s US Open champion in this modality .
Moro Cañas will face Matteo Gigante in the second round and will need two more wins to secure entry to Wimbledon’s final draw, which represents a prize of at least 60,000 pounds (70,000 euros).
