The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar ensured that he attacked the climb to San Luca, the last climb of the second stage of Tour de France to test his rivals and noted that he was not surprised by the response of Slovenian Jonas Vingegaard, whose fitness is a question mark after the severe fall he suffered in the spring.
“On the first ascent to San Luca the runners of Visma (from Vingegaard) was controlled well, but in the second I felt stronger and decided to try something else,” said the UAE rider.
“It was a very short climb and I was not surprised by Vingegaard’s answer. We rode together but in the end we saw how Carapaz joined us,” he added.
The winner of the last Giro d’Italia managed to distance all the favorites except Vingegaard and in the final stage they were joined by the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz and the Belgian Remco Evenpoel.
Pogacar said he ran the way he wanted, offensively, and praised the festive atmosphere that existed on the climb to the summit. San Lucawhere the city of Bologna dominates.
The Slovenian, wearing the yellow jersey, does not want to reveal if they will try to keep it in the next stages: “We will see that every day, we will follow our original plan”
