For the second year in a row, Cristina Bucsa is in the second round of Wimbledon after defeating the Romanian Ana Bogdan by 6-4, 4-6 and 7-6 (5).
Bucsa, who has won just one match in four tournaments on the grass tour, saved two match points in the third set, on her own serve, and won the final super tie break to return to the second round from Wimbledon after one year.
In a match that threatened to be suspended in the first set, when Bogdan complained about how slippery the court was, he stopped for several minutes at the start of the second set because of the downpour in London and also at the start. in the third set, Bucsa came close to falling in the third set, when he saved six of eight break points and was down 3-5.
At 4-5 down and serving to stay, the Spaniard saved two match points and forced a super tiebreaker where he had no choice. They went 6-1 up and grabbed the lead to seal last year’s points defense.
