There are currently more questions than answers in the case surrounding the repair of the dilapidated Danube bridge at Mautern in the Wachau (Lower Austria). An initial reaction from the State Councillor for Transport, Udo Landbauer, does not change anything. After all: the PVV does not want to deny the feared failure of the replacement bridge.
Let’s recap: The Danube Bridge at Mautern connects the flourishing southern bank with the “real” Wachau on the left bank of the Danube, as advertised in tourist guides. Thousands of commuters and a fair number of students use the river crossing to reach Krems. But the old building is getting old and urgently needs renovation. Actually, construction should have been going on since last autumn. But so far, only one construction hut has been built.
