The Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick Step) said on the rest day of the Tour de France that I hope to be a hero in the supposed rivalry between Slovenian Tadej Pogacar and Dane Jonas Vingegaard for if “two dogs fight over a bone, a third may receive it.”
“The real Tour for the general classification starts on Saturday. I’m ready for the fight. I’m not afraid of bad days like in the Vuelta, because my legs are better than before. There will be a great battle and I hope to be a part of it as much as possible,” he said.
Evenepoel, second overall, He used a simile to explain this and pointed out that “two dogs fight over a bone and a third can take it.”
“You must continue to believe in it, in your own strength and in your own plan. You will never know…”, he added.
The Vuelta winner and 2022 world champion, on a rest day in Orléans, gave a positive assessment of the first 9 stages of the 2024 Tour.
“I really liked everything about the Tour so far.. I have so much fun here. “If everything goes well, I won’t have a bad experience, maybe if it rains, that’s all I can think of,” he said.
In his French career debut, the Belgian has already drawn some conclusions.
“The general level is higher in the Tour, at least 3 to 4 km/h faster. There is always a fight here. They gave me enough notice and that’s why I prepared. I think the most stressful days are overhe highlighted.
Remco has on his agenda the possibility of winning the stage next Wednesday in Le Lorian, on the same stage as his compatriot Greg Van Avermaet in 2016.
“I really want to run on the Le Lorian stage on Wednesday, because Greg Van Avermaet won there last time. I will chat with him again about that ending. As a Belgian I want to repeat the victory” he concluded.
