Between exhaustion and emotion, the Dane Jonas Vingegaard I could barely speak after I won the eleventh stage of the Tour in a head-to-head in Slovenian Tadej Pogacara victory he gave special importance three months after the fall he suffered in April in the Basque Country.
“I can’t imagine achieving this feat after everything I’ve been through in the last three months. This victory means a lot to me. “I couldn’t have done it without my family,” said the Visma runner after crossing the Le Lioran finish line.
The winner of the last two editions of the Tour was hospitalized for 33 days, one week in intensive care, after a fall at the Tour of the Basque Country, disrupting his preparations for attacking his third consecutive Tour. “It’s unbelievable that I won today at this stage, it means a lot to me”he emphasized.
Vingegaard fell from Pogacar on the climb of Puy Mary and lost some time on the descent, but made up for it on the climb of Pertus, the penultimate summit of the day. “I preferred to climb at my own pace, I didn’t think I could catch up with him, but I managed to do it. I didn’t even think I could beat him in the sprint, so I’m very happy,” said the Dane.
