Date:

The Spanish Juan Ayuso (UAE) did not meet the expectations of finishing his first Tour de France due to Covid, but He will try to rest and recover to participate in the online test for the Paris Games.

I’m a little disappointed, it’s not possible, but I’ve been struggling to follow the peloton for several days. and yesterday I finished the stage very badly. We did a Covid test and it came back positive. We decided to see if I could make it to the day, but things turned out this way,” Ayuso said at the finish line.

Ayuso must begin the recovery process, always hoping to be in the Games.

“I spoke with the director to assess everything and see what we will do for the future. The Olympic Games are coming. On the one hand, I will spend a week without touching the bike, because health will come First, but I will try to go to Paris, to see what I can do,” he emphasized.

The cyclist from Javea thinks that facing the Olympic time trial on July 27 is an unreal possibility.

“I have to talk to Momparler, I don’t know if the time trial will survive, but I don’t think so, but I can be at a good level in the road test,” he said.

Regarding the Vuelta a España, for Ayuso this is an issue that is now far away.

“We haven’t talked about that yet, I can’t say yes or no, because the truth is I don’t know. First a week of not being able to get on the bike and then my mind is trying to get to the Games.

Regarding his Tour debut, Ayuso, eighth overall, resigned himself to a negative drift after a promising start. Now he will make his colleagues happy on television.

“A strange Tour. It started quite well and then it went wrong. I can only say that I wish my teammates good luck in the face of very difficult stages. I’m like a fan watching on TV and cheering,” he concluded.
