The Spanish Alejandro Del Rey (25 years old) yesterday lived one of the best days of his career as a professional golfer after carded a superb 62 strokes (eight under par) in the second round of the Scottish Openbeing the best of all the participants and ending the day in a creditable fifth position overallwith 131 hits (-9), the same number, among others, Northern Irishman Rory McIlroyone of the big favorites for victory.
In fact, the day before yesterday, Del Rey rose a total of 85 positions in the rankings.
The Madrid native finished Thursday with a cautious 69 strokes, one under par of the field, but yesterday it was already possible to see, from the start, that it was going to be his day: to six ‘birdies’ in the first six holes, to close the first half of the course with an amazing -6 on his personal card. In the second, despite not being able to match the records of the first, he still managed to lower the field’s par by a few more strokes to -8 at the end of the day.
This wonderful performance allowed Del Rey to move within three steps of the lead solo at The Renaissance ClubSwedish Ludvig Aberg, who showed a card of 128 strokes, signed two identical days, both with 64 strokes. They are followed in the French classification Antoine Rozner, with 129 hits (-11), and the Korean Sungjae Im and the Italian Matteo Manasseroboth have 130 hits (-10)
