Dresden police have opened an investigation into one of their officers for allegedly giving the Hitler salute during a party at Hohnstein Castle in Saxon Switzerland on Friday evening.
Officers allegedly played Gigi D’Agostino’s song “L’amour Toujours” while “considerably intoxicated.” One official reportedly danced to it and gave the Hitler salute.
It was said that an investigation was being conducted against a “currently unknown” officer of the Dresden police. This concerns the suspicion of using symbols of unconstitutional organizations. In addition to opening criminal proceedings, disciplinary measures would also be investigated.
The 1999 song “L’amour Toujours” made headlines in this country, especially in connection with an incident on the North Sea island of Sylt. Several young people sang the lines “Foreigners out” and “Germany for the Germans” to the party hit in a posh bar.
Similar incidents also occurred at folk and shooting festivals in Bavaria and Lower Saxony, at a national youth festival in Tyrol or during the European Championship match Austria-Turkey last week in Leipzig.
