The Belgian Remco Evenepoelwho lost this Saturday to second place overall in the Tour de France, considered the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar out of reach for the first place, but said he was ready to fight with the Dane Jonas Vingegaard and to finish on the podium.
“I think jonas was realized Tadej is superior and now he will fight to keep second place and to win at some stage. I think the first place is very difficult, Pogacar is too strong, but I will try to finish as much as possible,” said the Soudal runner.
Evenepoel made sure he was intercepted by Pogacar’s attack with five kilometers to go and had to make an extra effort to catch up with Vingegaard, who paid more.
“My own teammate Mikel Landa shut me down, but also Matteo Jorgenson, I want to react but I don’t have space. I think I can get out of Jonas’s wheel and follow him for more kilometers. That’s my goal,” he said.
“Following Pogacar does not interest me, he is too strong. The advantage over Jonas is what interests me”he added.
