The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE), leader of the Tour de France, was happy to survive the final stage with a sprint finish and predicted that “The fight for the general classification doesn’t come back until the weekend.”
“I’m glad the sprint stages are over, although there are some difficult phases ahead. Tomorrow, for example, it will be windy at the start and there will be some mountains at the end. Anyway, I think the next two episodes will be breakaway days. The last three stages will be the real confrontation between the men in the general classification,” analyzed the leader.
Despite its sprint finish, the UAE team had to be controlled at different stages of the stage to avoid any surprises.
“I’m happy that today’s stage is not as windy as I expected.”. There were some key moments where we had to be ahead, but otherwise it was an easy stage and I’m happy it’s over now. The sprint stages of the Tour de France are quite unique, there are complicated sections where you have to be very focused to avoid trouble,” he concluded.
