The Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick Step), will face the next few days with the sole aim of maintaining his third place on the podium, and ensured that, for him, “The Tour could end now.”
“Tomorrow and the day after are breakaway days, so it’s quieter for us. Then I have to look at those behind me in the general standings to keep my place on the podium, but I have a good margin over them. So that’s I think I will run more defensively and we will see if it is possible to do more. “If the Tour could stop now, I would say it would be fine,” Remco said.
Regarding Tuesday’s stage, the winner of the Vuelta and World Champion in 2022, commented that the difficulty had decreased until he almost enjoyed a rest day.
“Today the wind was strong at the beginning of the stage, then it weakened as the kilometers continued and at the end it almost became a rest day. I stayed with Yves Lampaert, who fulfilled his mission completely by putting me at the front of the peloton and keep me out of trouble, that’s what needs to be done now,” he concluded.
