Kasper Hjulmand has resigned from his position as coach of the national team of Denmark after its poor balance in Euro 2024, the Danish Football Association (DBU) announced this Friday. The Danes have played seven consecutive games in major tournaments – the 2022 World Cup and the European Championship – without winning any of them and scoring just three goals.
A 2-0 defeat to hosts Germany in the round of 16 knocked Denmark out of the Euros and a lack of attacking power was blamed for reducing their chances of reaching major tournaments. Hjulmand said the team needed new energy and asked to cancel his contract, which was valid for another year. Morten Wieghorst will be the interim national coach until 2025, according to the football association.
