He Hajduk Split have confirmed in a statement the signing of the Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who arrived in his country’s league after his brief spell with Saudi Al-Shabab, where he spent three months. Rakitic, 36, signed for one season with the option of another.
Hajduk described him, in his announcement, as “one of the best players in the history of Croatian football” and he also played throughout his long career for Basel, Schalke, Sevilla (in two stages) and Barcelona.
He won the Swiss Cup, four Spanish leagues, four Copas del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups, Champions League, European Super Cup and Club World Cup with Barcelona, and two European Leagues with Sevilla; and with the national team he achieved runner-up in the world championship in Russia 2018 and played 106 games.
