Laura Vilagra: "We went to Madrid to close the deal"

Date:

The councilor of President of the Generalitat, Laura Vilagràconfirmed this Friday that he was in Madrid, at the headquarters of Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) “to definitely close an agreement” on the candidacy for the 2030 Winter Games and it is not willing to “open the debate” to include Aragon.

“We had six technical meetings where we talked and finally closed a proposal. The COE called us exactly to sign that agreement and that’s what we did.”he said before entering the committee headquarters, where, among the Olympic leaders, the Secretary of State for Sport, José Manuel Franco, was in half an hour before.

At today’s meeting, where a technical candidacy project should probably be signed, Aragon was not represented after President Javier Lambán distanced himself on the grounds that the two communities were not included on equal terms.

Vilagrá indicated when it came to the COE that at these six technical meetings “all proposals have been reviewed” and reached “an understanding, a good proposal from a competitive perspective and the chances of winning, to be selected for the Olympic candidacy.”

“We are satisfied with this agreement and we have come to close it definitely from a political point of view and that is what we will do”He added.

Regarding the absence of the Aragonese government, the councilor said: “We will not get into controversies. We had plenty of time to talk. The proposal is good, it’s a winner, it’s competitive and we’re not going to move there. “

As for the possibility of the surrender of Catalonia in some areas to get closer to the Aragonese claims, Vilagrà reiterated that it had been disputed “for several days”.

“We also wanted to have all the skating in Catalonia and it has not been like that. We will not open anything, we will not open the debate,” he assured.

The councilor said this is not the time to think about whether Catalonia will assume all the Games if Aragon does not want to participate: “We are not there yet, we will close the agreement we have in force.”
