1-0: Costa Rica will be Spain’s rival in the World Cup

Date:

The Costa Rican national team is in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. ‘Ticos’ prevailed at the lowest (1-0) in New Zealand thanks to a goal by Joel Campbell in the early playoff match played at Al Rayyan stadium in Doha.

The team led by Colombian Luis Fernando Suárez will be Spain’s first rival in the World Cupin a match to be played on Wednesday, November 23 (5:00 pm) at Al Thumama stadium.

Notice to boaters. Costa Rica, which will play in the sixth round of the World Cup final, the third in a row, has won three of the first games it has played: against Scotland (1-0 in 1990), against China ( 2-0 in 2022) and against Uruguay (3 -1 in 2014).

The Costa Ricans, who had to play this playoff after finishing fourth in the final octagonal Concacaf, after Canada, Mexico and the United States, and started four games without a win to win a spot by winning in the last three, now the scoreboard is advanced in minute 3, in an action born of a throw-in and that, after an assist from Bennette, allowed Joel Campbell to make it 1-0.

Before the break New Zealand was able to draw. In fact, he did, but the VAR nullified the intent. He scored through Wood, but the referee, after consulting with the VAR, called a previous foul on the New Zealand player and disallowed the goal.

New Zealand reacted positively and put ‘ticos’ in their place thanks to Cacace’s arrivals on the left wing and Wood’s centimeters, which turned out to be a real nightmare for the opposing defense.

Costa Rica thought too much about the result but endured it and breathed a sigh of relief at the absurd expulsion of the Barbarous, who a few minutes after entering the field left the game with an ugly and unnecessary entrance. But even ten did not stop New Zealand from dominating and generating uncertainty.

Costa Rica is stuck in their place and asking for time, but Keylor Navas imposed his law and, eventually, the ‘Ticos’ took their ticket for the World Cup.
