The Ticos beat New Zealand in the final standings for Qatar
Costa Rica won last place on Wednesday night for the World Cup in Qatar, to be held between November and December, after beating New Zealand in the final round in Doha thanks to a goal from Joel Campbell after three minutes of play. It will be the sixth World Cup for the Ticos, who made their debut in Italy (1990) and attended events in South Korea and Japan (2002), Germany (2006), Brazil (2014) and Russia (2018).
In the South American country they signed their best tournament there. They reached the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by the Netherlands on penalties. Now the team led by Luis Fernando Suárez is in the same group –E– as Spain.
Both teams will meet on the first day of the World Cup: on November 23 at 5 p.m. at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, the capital of Qatar. This group will be completed by Germany and Japan, who will meet three hours earlier at the Khalifa International stadium, also in Doha. The penultimate place in these qualifiers was taken by Australia after beating Peru on penalties on Monday.
