Several thousand citizens received this Monday in the balcony of Old Palace of Belgrade to the Serbian athletes who returned from the Olympic Games in Paris with torches and flags. Serbian Olympic athletes won five medals at the Paris Games that ended on Sunday: gold in water polo, tennis and archery, silver in taekwondo and bronze in basketball.
The fans, carrying a large number of Serbian flags, on the balcony of the old court, first welcomed the basketball team that won the bronze and was about to star in the big surprise in the semifinals against USA.
The Serbian team took to the balcony to perform Gale’s song “Freed from desire”, while the public sang “Kari’s on fire”, dedicated to the coach. Svetislav Pesic.
Next to come out on the balcony to loud applause was taekwondo player Aleksandra Perisicsilver medalist at the Games, followed by gold shooters Zorana Arunović and Damir Mike.
A new light greeted the water polo players and their professional team, who came out on the balcony wearing the gold medal despite low expectations.
The tennis player Novak Djokovicwho won the gold medal, and coach Viktor Troicki They went up to the balcony behind the water polo player, with the biggest torch and the loudest applause to the cry of ‘Nole, Nole’.
After the representatives’ speeches, rap collective THCF performed on the balcony with the song “Play and win”, as well as singer Danica Crnogorčević performing “Veseli se srpski rode”.
The national anthem of Serbia was previously performed by the “Charolija” choir.
