The Olympic flag arrived in Los Angeles this Mondaywhere it will fly in 2028, when the city hosts the next Summer Games. The banner arrived aboard a Delta Airlines plane carrying American athletes and officials, and was painted with “LA28” and palm trees on its side.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass got off the plane wearing a red Team USA tracksuit, smiled and waved the Olympic flag before descending the stairs to be greeted by California Governor Gavin Newsom. Olympic jumper Delaney Schnell, skater Tate Carew and others accompanied the official.
The International Olympic Committee awarded Los Angeles in 2017 the right to host the 2028 Games. This is the third time Los Angeles has hosted the Games in modern times, having been the host city in 1932 and 1984.
