The International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) confirmed this Wednesday that The Thai Grand Prix, at the Buriram circuit, will govern the opening of the motorcycle world championship season in 2025 and 2026.
The ‘Chang International Circuit’ of Buriram will host the motorcycle world championship on the weekend of February 28 to March 2, 2025meanwhile, for the first time in over 25 years the season will begin in Southeast Asia.
Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand explained in the FIM note that “We recognize the many advantages of being responsible at the opening of the season, as this is a great opportunity to take advantage of a world-class sporting event to stimulate the economy and generate significant income, in line with the sports tourism policy.
“One of the factors that will make the 2025 season even more exciting is the significant movement of riders between teams, which will undoubtedly fascinate MotoGP fans around the world, who are eagerly waiting to see the best riders on their new motorcycles for the first time at the Chang International Circuit,” added Yodmani.
“On behalf of the Sports Authority of Thailand, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dorna Sports and You are assured that Thailand is fully prepared in all aspects to host the opening round of the 2025 and 2026 seasons“, concluded Yodmani.

The dates are provisional until confirmed, as the full and provisional 2025 FIM MotoGP calendar will be published by the FIM later in the 2024 season.
