The BBC has sacked a former Premier League player, and no Gary Lineker. The famous British channel has sent Jermain Jenas (41) from the popular show ‘Match of de Day’ for “inappropriate behaviour”. Jenas ended his football career in 2014 and quickly turned professional. Since then he has been seen and heard on BBC broadcasts.
The former Newcastle, Tottenham and Aston Villa player was seen as the natural successor to Gary Lineker when he retired, but now Jenas has been suddenly fired from the BBC: he did not comment or show the start of the Premier League. The BBC confirms he no longer works for them: “We can confirm that Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting team,” a BBC spokesperson told ‘The Guardian’.
‘The Sun’ reported the details of the reason for the dismissal. According to sources from the aforementioned media, the new BBC sports director, Alex Kay-Jelski, was involved in the process that led to Jenas’ dismissal. “It’s a total nightmare for the BBC,” said one source. “Jermaine’s behavior was reported and the matter was immediately investigated, resulting in the decision to remove him from the air and terminate his contract.”
