Oviedo took charge of the FPF in January 2015 and helped revive the Peru team, which participated in the 2018 World Cup in Russia after a 36-year absence from the competition. He spent a year and a half in preventive detention, then a year and a half under house arrest after being accused by the prosecution of being the “ringleader” of a “corruption network” and the intellectual author of the murder of two members of union. shot in 2012 and 2015.

They worked for a sugar company run by a former sports executive. Prosecutors said Oviedo ordered the killings in retaliation for protests against him.
