Greenwood will play international matches again, but not in England

Date:

Mason Greenwood international matches will be played again, but not included England. The 22-year-old Englishman can also play Jamaica due to his dual nationality and that country requested permission from the FA to transfer the international registration, according to English media.

The last time the current Marseille striker played in an international match was four years ago, when he played fifteen minutes for the English team in the Nations League match against Iceland. This is his first and last international match so far.

Then-national coach Gareth Southgate decided to send Greenwood home during that international break after he and Foden broke quarantine measures by inviting the girls to the team hotel. Eighteen months later, he was suspended by Manchester United after being accused of attempted rape and sexual assault. The striker was also left out of the national team and hasn’t played a single minute since.

Now, Steve McClaren, the current Jamaican national coach, wants to have Greenwood. The FA would have given the documents to the Jamaican Football Association, meaning only official approval from FIFA remained.
