Lucho Garcia: "Saving an important moment is such a goal"

Date:

Luis Alberto García Pacheco (Barranquilla, March 20, 1998), known in football as Lucho Garciais a promising goalkeeper that this course has given its good account of Ponferradina and also a good person who knows how important it is to be kind to others. He recently spoke to Mundo Deportivo about all things football and personal.

At the end of the season, what balance will you make on the course?

On a collective level, it has been incredible, being for a large part of the season in the ‘playoff’ zone. The team performed at an amazing level

What is missing in the final stage to get into the ‘playoffs’?

All the teams went through good and bad streaks and in the second round we had a bit of a hard time keeping a clean sheet. But we have to stick to the fact that we fought the whole season in a good year because it was the centenary of Ponferradina.

This is the year of his debut in Second. Did you notice the level change?

Yes it shows in terms of decision making, one should be more attentive. In that aspect I learned a lot from the purpose of Ponferradina and I grew a lot.

He has a contract until June 2023. Do you expect to continue this year in Ponferradina or are you open to other offers?

Right now I’m only thinking about Ponferradina and if anything happens, my agents will take care of it. I’m happy, I’m still a young goalkeeper and I think I’m on the right track.

You were born in Colombia but arrived in Spain when you were 3 years old. Is football always a part of your life?

Ever since I can remember, I have loved football. I have no memory since I came to Spain other than playing football.

Always a goalkeeper?

Yeah, he’s always the tallest on the team so … (laughs).

He played at the Real Madrid youth academy. Who did you meet there?

Includes Achraf Hakimi, Óscar Rodríguez and Dani Gómez, among others.

He has been at Real Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, Sevilla, Deportivo and Ponferradina.

Yes, and everywhere I felt super comfortable. I was not mistaken and I have great memories.

What kind of goalkeeper is Lucho García?

I am brave and I want to avoid scoring actions. And I’m always helpful when I try to help my teammates as much as possible.

And he often celebrates stops.

Yes, for me it is very important. Saving an important moment is such a goal. If they scored a goal for us, it was useless for us to do so.

What was the best match of your career so far?

There were a few, but I would choose the Colombia U-20 one against Brazil. It was a game where I had a lot of confidence. And we get rid of them too.

International with Colombia in the lower category. Do you think perfectly?

Yes, this is one of my goals in the medium term. Now the important thing is to establish myself in professional football, but this is one of my dreams. You have to work hard for that to happen.

What was your idol when you were a child?

some. Petr Cech, René Higuita, Manuel Neuer and Gianluigi Buffon. Those are my references.

Who wants to save on penalties?

In nothing in particular, but in a specialist one will never fail.

He was the protagonist of an initiative consisting of exchanging gloves for stuffed animals. How is that so?

When I was in Rayo, my salary did not allow me to go to Colombia for Christmas. My colleague Bruno Zuculini traveled to Colombia with my mother and told me that ‘you owe me nothing, I will just leave you this seed so that one day you can sow it in others’. And based on that idea, last year I bought 50 pairs of gloves to exchange them with kids for toys for other kids who didn’t have the resources. As a message, I want to leave them that you should be thankful for life and help others.

And you also have a Foundation right?

Yes, my father is the president and runs everything. We help children from different countries, especially from Colombia, to get papers to study and play soccer here. What matters is that they have those opportunities.

The latter. Where do you see yourself in five years?

In a place where I have peace, where I play and represent my country. I want to work, I will never give up and I know that things always go with the habit.
