The city pigeons of Salzburg are increasingly struggling with the dramatic effects of months of illegal food. The supposed love for animals that now convert into animal suffering: the birds are increasingly sicker and only too thick and slow to prevent cars.
Animal lovers in the city of Salzburg probably meant good: for months, for months, activists have been feeding pigeons several times a day in different places in the city of Salzburg. But the supposed love for animals has now been converted into unbearable animal suffering.
New “prosperity” brings more time to reproduce
The extremely adaptable animals quickly got used to the new “prosperity”. You no longer have to look for natural food, you now have more time for your reproduction.
The consequences of neglect of prosperity: the animals are increasingly suffering from poverty in the motion and lack of vitamins. Just like people, this results in an increased sensitivity to diseases. These spread all faster among many pigeons.
Fight for the few breeding sites
And another big problem is the many pigeons: they have to compete for the few suitable breeding grounds in the city and undergo it under poor hygienic conditions and under constant stress.
Another problem is Jakob Pöhacker of the Ornithological Working Group in the House of Nature: “Feeds get used to pigeons. If the birds are fed next to a busy street, the risk is of course higher that they also land for cars,” he warns. Because this photo is increasingly becoming clear in the station area: the animals die painfully because they just underestimate cars or buses.
To contain animal suffering, the city of Salzburg stretched measures to the ban on nutrition. “No massive food could be found during the last checks,” reports Vice -Mayor Florian Kreibich (ÖVP).
