Historic trade unionist David Morín, one of the founders of CC.OO, dies. in Biscay

A reference to the left bank labor movement, he was born in 1928 in Getxo. He took part in the creation of the first Workers’ Committee of Bizkaia in the Church of La Aneja in 1963.

He passed away last Sunday at the age of 95 David Morin Salgadohistorical trade unionist born in Getxo to whom he has devoted his life labor movement.

In the late 1940s he was a member of the PCE and was one of the founders of CC.OO. in Biscay. He later also joined the PSOE.

He worked as a metallurgist at Beltrán y Casado, a company located in what is now Deusto ikastola. It was a company that manufactured the first refrigerators in its workshops and one of the first factories to organize factory committees from the late 1950s.

In an interview he gave in 2015 with the also historic Periko Solabarria, he said that during the clandestine times he had met “with more than 1000 workers” in the mountains.

More than once he risked his physical integrity in the fight for workers’ rights and was imprisoned for it.

“I would say to the young people of today that they have to fight, that without struggle there are no possibilities,” the interview on ETB ended.
