Trump wins the Iowa caucuses and confirms his leadership among Republicans

The former US President and pre-candidate for the White House in 2024, Donald Trump, has swamped the Iowa caucuseswith 51.1% of the vote, almost 30 points more than the second, the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis.

With nearly 100% of the votes counted, Trump has gained 55,835 votes and 51.1%, while DeSantis has added 23,172 votes and 21.2%. The third was the former governor of South Carolina and former ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haleywith 20,817 votes and 19.1%.

Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, who announced his withdrawal and support for Trump after his results, came fourth with 8,358 votes and 7.6%.

The Iowa caucuses will divide 40 delegates, currently won by 20 Trump, 8 DeSantis, 7 Haley and 3 Ramaswamy. The remaining two still depend on the end result.

Trump: ‘It’s time for our country to come together’

After confirming his victory, the Republican leader has assured that it is time for the United States to ‘unite’. “Our country must come together. We want to come together. Whether Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, it would be so good if we could come together and fix the world, solve the problems and end all the death and destruction. that we see,” he said.

For his part, DeSantis He appeared in front of his supporters smiling and visibly happy to have finished in second place. “They wrote our obituary months ago. They even called the election before people had a chance to vote,” complained DeSantis, who then thanked them for their support.

Earlier, the second-place candidate had accused the media of “interfering” with the results by declaring Trump’s victory just half an hour after the caucuses began.

Finally Nikki Haley, just two points behind DeSantis, claims to be Trump’s great rival. “Looking at how we’re doing in New Hampshire, South Carolina and beyond, I can confidently say I’m going to make this Republican primary a two-person race,” he said.
