Tonali returned, ten months later

Date:

The Italian Sandro Tonali was summoned by Newcastle UnitedEdit for the League Cup match against Nottingham Forest this Wednesday, once his ten-month betting ban has been served. Tonali joined Newcastle last summer for 65 million euros, but played just twelve games before the Italian federation suspended him for ten months for betting while playing in Serie A.

The midfielder’s suspension expires on Tuesday, so he could play in Wednesday’s second round League Cup tie against Nottingham Forest.

“He will enter the squad,” confirmed Eddie Howe, coach of the ‘Magpies’ on Tuesday. “He’s fit, he just needs to get playing time. He’s worked hard to be as fit as possible.” “When you’re away for so long, you have a lot of time to analyze and reflect. Now it’s time to get back to what he loves the most. It’s a big relief for him.”
