Manchester City are boosted for next season with the addition of Erling Haaland and Julio Álvarez, but at least they are looking for two more signatures, as announced by Khaldoon al-Mubarak, the club’s president, at the end of May.
Pep Guardiola’s next goals will be to strengthen midfield, with Kalvin Phillips (Leeds) as the priority candidate, and the left line, a position he intends to support Marc Cucurella.
The city has one of two operations very well and, if the contacts they have established are not mistaken, all indicate that in the next few days they will announce the signing of Cucurella.
The 23-year-old Catalan left-back gave Brighton a great performance in his first season in the Premier League after he was signed in the summer of 2021 from Getafe for 18 million euros.
Chelsea and Tottenham like him too
Like Chelsea and Tottenham, Cucurella’s willingness to accept City’s offer will finally prevail. “There are teams you can’t refuse,” the player confirmed recently, who was reported by Brighton to be worth 45 million euros because of the interest sparked by his services.
Coming out of the quarry of Spain and Barça, Cucurella made his debut for Barça’s first team in 2017, but in August 2018 he was loaned to Eibar for a season and the following to Getafe, which in 2020 took him as property.
