Promising, under-par start for Jon Rahm at the US Open.

Date:

The start of the high approval pulling the noteworthy one had this Thursday Jon Rahmdefender of title, in US Open. which is disputed in The Country Clubaround Bostonand whose first day the Basque placed, with a card under par, 69 shots, two of the home-club leaders, tied for 8th in the meantime.

Leaders with a completed round of 67 (-3) are the Englishman Callum Tarren, the Swedish David Lingmerth, number 445 and 592 in the world rankings, and the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, winner of 4 majors and the Canadian Open on Sunday. Rory got a -4 after scoring the day’s fourth birdie on the 8th (he started at 10) but ended up with a mole, reading a bogey, at 9, for 67 as well. The British are one of the big favorites and winner in this ‘major’.

Not much given in the good opening round to the ‘bigs’, Rahm closed out his inaugural card at this US Open with a great birdie on the 18th hole after falling without penalty on his second shot next to a television tower, and pocketed a ‘joint’ for the last ‘3’. Jon, who was in the top 10 in almost all of his rounds, and left with 4 more holes, returned to the top 10 in the standings with this beautiful birdie in the 18th and 69th finals.

It was a first round for Barrika where almost all good and bad happened in the first 9 holes, with three birdies and two bogeys. On the second nine holes, less rise and fall when signing a bogey on the 15th hole and the aforementioned birdie on the 18th.

The Biscayan is fairly accurate from the tee, with drive and with steels in the holes that need it; pretty good with shots on the green; occasional mistakes in approaching the chips in the hole from the thick rough around the green, and shots from the bunker, while on the putt there is little all: clear birdie options are not taken advantage of in the first holes, which if they have A more luck he can shoot at the board, and a few putts are inserted when they should, especially the 18.

This last birdie was quite pleased with the face of the Spaniard, and of him Caddy Adam Hayes, to close out a very difficult and studied first round in title defense, keeping him with all the options and waiting in the clubhouse for most of the contenders for victory to complete their first round. Let’s remember that Adri Arnaus and Sergio Garciathe other two Spaniards in dispute over this ‘big’, left the afternoon shift.

The other results to be highlighted are 69 of Colin Morikawaand 70 of Olympic gold Xander Schauffeleand the 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama.
