The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) paid tribute this Thursday, before the match against Croatia, to Pepe for the 141 games he played with the Portuguese national team shirt, before announcing that, at 41 years old, he was hanging up his boots in August.
Before the Nations League match in between Portugal and Croatiaplayed at the Da Luz stadium in Lisbon, the FPF president, Fernando Gomesthe former player was given a shirt with the number 141 on the back.
The former Portuguese-Brazilian international, 41 years old, ended his career after playing in the European Championship in Germany and is the third player with the most appearances in the ‘quinas’ shirt, after Cristiano Ronaldo (212) and Joao Moutinho (146).
The former centre-back was named ambassador of the Portuguese national teams this week and was given a standing ovation by fans gathered in Da Luz.
