Ciganda: “It’s a new week and I’m very motivated to play in the US and make history”

Date:

What was experienced in Last year’s Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesín (Málaga)where Carlota Ciganda appeared in a great way to add the point that allowed the European team to keep the trophy and beat the American team for the third consecutive edition. This year it will be held again so that it does not coincide with next year’s Ryder Cup.

The Navarrese player will once again be part of the European team. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia This is the setting for this new edition of the Solheim Cup, where the best American and European players will compete. Movistar Plus+ will offer, live and exclusively, a tournament that will bring together the best women’s golf. Golf 2 on M+ (dial 68) will be the reference channel). Friday 13th and Saturday 14th from 1:00 pm to 12:00 am Sunday 15th from 2:45 pm to 9:00 pm (always Spanish peninsular time.

The Solheim Cup is one of the most important events in women’s golf. It is a biennial tournament, like the Ryder Cup, but despite being held last year in Spain, it will be played again in 2024 to not coincide with the Ryder (COVID changed the Ryder years).

Europe will be looking for a fourth consecutive title. The Americans are under a lot of pressure, because they have not won since 2017 in Iowa last year it was held in our country, at Finca Cortesín, and it was a tournament with joy until the end. In fact, the result was 14-14, but Europe took the tournament because they are the current champions.

This year the European team, again led by Norwegian Suzann Pettersenwill try to make history by achieving something that has never been achieved, neither in Europe nor in the United States, and that is winning four times in a row.

In the European team there will again be a Spaniard, the Navarrese Carlota Ciganda, who will play in her seventh Solheim Cup, the player with the most appearances in the history of Spain. Last year he was the hero, scoring four points for Europe and providing the winning point against world number one Nelly Korda.

“Everything is very positive, the team is excited, we had a great time in the team room, the field seems amazing to me, we want to hit it hard, in other words we are waiting to start Solheim,” Carlota said in remarks provided to MD for the event’s communications service.

“This is a new week, I will never forget the week in Spain, but now we are in the US, with the public against which motivates me a lot,” added one from Ulzama (Pamplona).

“Europe has always been characterized by how well we get along within the team, how much we fight, all of us always to the death with the captain, I want Friday to arrive now,” Carlota highlights.

“The fact that you get along, the fact that you laugh freely, the fact that you play fun practice rounds, the fact that there is a good vibe…All this improves the performance of the team,” declared the Spaniard .

And in conclusion, Ciganda assured that “I want to see Europe win on Sunday, make history with a fourth consecutive victory, something that has not been achieved. On paper they have a better team according to the numbers, but it’s a match game and he’s going to make putts…”.

In its part, European rookie Albane Valenzuela (nationalized Swiss), pointing out that “the energy sent by the team is incredible, I am having a lot of fun. In Solheim the key is to play for others, for Europe. It is a great pride to be here, new experience , I lose words, this week means a lot, different from other weeks in the LPGA We have to play very aggressively, the Americans are going to go all out, we on the other hand have to know how to play defensively sometimes and not attack.”
