There is still a year before the celebration of Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championshipsthe organizing committee of the event announced the test route of marathonwhich will be held on September 14 and 15 with two races, one for men and one for women.
The 42,195 kilometer route will have a start and finish Japan National Stadium and will take competitors through some of the Japanese capital’s most famous neighborhoods, highlighting its vast historical, cultural and architectural heritage.
The initial segment, located in the busy area of Shinjukuwill be dominated by a steep slope that will test the stamina of the athletes. After the first 5 kilometers, the course will be flat and lead competitors close to Tokyo Domea magnificent covered stadium with a capacity for 45,000 people, and about 8 kilometers in the race, they will reach Jimbochowhich is known as one of the largest antique book districts in the world.
From there, runners must complete two laps of the 13-kilometer circuit that will cross the neighborhoods of Akihabara, Nihonbashi and Ginza, passing through Imperial Palace and the Tokyo station.
The final leg will take the runners back to the Japan National Stadium for a difficult climb between kilometers 38 and 40before meeting the people waiting at the stadium’s finish line.
In addition, the Championship will host the 20 and 35 kilometer athletic walking testwhich will also start at the Japan National Stadium.
A 35km race will be featured 16 laps of the 2 kilometer circuitwhile the 20 km test is included 18 laps of a 1 kilometer circuit. After completing the laps, walkers will return to the Japan National Stadium via the downhill section.

- Saturday the 13th September: 35 km women’s and men’s walk (together)
- Sunday 14 September: Women’s Marathon
- Monday the 15th September: Men’s Marathon
