Xabi Alonso was awarded this Thursday with the award for the best coach of the season in Bundesliga of the German football players’ union (VDV) in recognition of his work at the head of Bayer Leverkusenwith whom he signed the double last season, Bundesliga (the first in the club’s history) and German Cup.

The award, called the ‘Silver Bench’, was awarded after receiving 84.1% of the vote, with all players from the Bundesliga, the 2. Bundesliga, the 3. Bundesliga and the leagues as well as all of other VDV members.
In addition to the Guipuzcoan coach, the players were awarded Florian Wirtz -designated best player-, Granit Xhaka, Jonathan Tah, Alejandro Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong as members of last year’s best eleven in the Bundesliga, which was conquered, for the first time in its history, by the team led by the Spanish coach.
